Check your PDF against an upload limit
Local size comparison only. This does not upload or compress your file.
Read the upload instructions first
An application portal can set a different limit for each upload field. Check its accepted format, maximum size, required pages and whether it wants one combined document or separate files. This is useful for admission, recruitment and document-submission workflows in India as well as portals elsewhere. There is no universal 200 KB requirement: follow the current instructions on the portal you are using.
Check the actual size before uploading
Use the checker on this page to compare a saved PDF with the limit you enter. It reads the file name and byte count on your device and does not upload the selected document. Choose decimal KB/MB unless the portal explicitly uses binary KiB/MiB. For example, 200 KB is 200,000 bytes, while 200 KiB is 204,800 bytes. A rounded size in a file manager can hide a small difference that causes rejection.
Compress a copy, then measure again
Open Compress PDF and select your original. Start with Balanced, download the result and test that new file in the checker. If it is still too large, compare Smallest file from the same original. Maximum quality prioritizes detail and may not fit a strict attachment limit. PDF Universe currently offers presets, not an exact-size compressor: a result under 200 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB cannot be guaranteed.
Inspect details the recipient needs
Zoom into names, dates, small print, stamps and reference numbers. Check every required page and both sides of a document when the instructions request them. A small but unreadable file is not a useful submission. Keep the original on your device and avoid repeatedly recompressing the last compressed copy.
When compression is not enough
A long image-heavy scan may not fit a tiny limit while remaining readable. If the portal accepts separate attachments, Split PDF or Extract Pages can produce the required sections. Remove pages only when they are genuinely unnecessary under the submission instructions. Do not assume cropping redacts content or that a changed signed PDF keeps its signature valid.
Example: a 500 KB attachment field
Suppose your saved document is 620,000 bytes and the field allows 500 KB. It needs at least 120,000 fewer bytes, about a 19.4% reduction. That calculation describes the requirement, not a compression promise. Compare a processed copy with 500,000 bytes, then confirm all required text and pages before uploading it to the destination portal.
Check the final upload before temporary files expire
Use a clear file name that follows the portal rules, select the reviewed copy and confirm the uploaded preview when one is available. The file-size checker stays local; the PDF compression tool uploads files over HTTPS to the hosted service. Processing accepts up to 100 MB per file and 500 pages per job, subject to shared quotas. Results are temporary for at most 24 hours and can disappear sooner after a restart. Download promptly and keep a local copy before temporary files expire.
