Split PDF into separate range files
Break one PDF into multiple PDF documents using explicit page ranges. A range represents one output file, so you can separate chapters or deliver only the sections intended for each reader without manually recreating the source document.
100 MB per file · up to 500 pages per job · one job at a time. Files are temporary, expire within 24 hours and are cleaned up automatically. Download results promptly; service restarts can remove them earlier.

What Split PDF does
Break one PDF into multiple PDF documents using explicit page ranges. A range represents one output file, so you can separate chapters or deliver only the sections intended for each reader without manually recreating the source document.
How to use this tool
- Upload one PDF.
- Enter ranges such as 1-3;4-6. Separate output groups with semicolons.
- Process the job and download the resulting PDFs.
Common uses
- Separate a report into chapter files for different reviewers without recreating the source document.
- Create a standalone cover and several range-based packets from one scanned bundle.
- Divide a long attachment into meaningful sections when the recipient accepts several files.
- Deliver an authorized excerpt to its intended recipient after checking that each output contains only the required page range.
Tips for better results
- Use physical PDF positions starting at one. A chapter printed as page 1 may be at PDF position 4 after a cover and introduction.
- A semicolon separates output groups. For a twelve-page file, 1;2-6;7-12 requests a cover and two chapters as three documents.
- Review every result’s first and last sheet. Include context such as a heading or cover when an excerpt would otherwise be confusing.
- Choose Extract Pages when you want one new PDF containing a selection. Choose Remove Pages when your selection describes sheets to exclude instead.

Ranges must refer to pages that exist in the uploaded file. Structural edits can affect signatures, forms and tags; inspect each output before sharing.
Questions about Split PDF
What does 1-3;4-6 mean?
It requests one document containing pages 1 through 3 and another containing pages 4 through 6.
How is splitting different from extraction?
Splitting produces separate documents for range groups. Extract Pages creates one PDF from the pages you select.
How do I split a cover and two chapters?
For a twelve-page source with the cover at position 1, try 1;2-6;7-12. These are physical positions; adapt them to your file and check every output.
Why is my range rejected?
Use numbers within the source’s page count, hyphens for consecutive ranges and semicolons between groups. Printed Roman-numeral labels are not numeric PDF positions.
Is splitting the same as extracting text?
No. Split produces PDF page documents. PDF to Text reads existing selectable text, while OCR adds recognized words to scans.
Can splitting remove all confidential information?
A page selection alone is not a privacy audit. Review the retained material, metadata and document features before sharing; cropping is not a redaction workflow.
